A Message from Superintendent Craig Hoppes

To the Astoria Community,

In my time as your Superintendent, I have seen firsthand the work it takes to keep our schools moving in the right direction. Following a strong year for our graduates in 2024, I am proud to share that the Class of 2025 has kept that momentum going, reaching a 94.6% four-year graduation rate.

To put that in perspective, the state of Oregon just announced a record-high graduation rate of 83%. Our students didn't just meet the state average, they surpassed it by over 11%. Seeing these numbers stay high year after year tells me that our success isn't an accident. It’s the result of a community that has made a high school diploma a non-negotiable priority for our kids.

To our students: You’re the ones who did the heavy lifting. Whether you were balancing a job, playing sports, or just trying to navigate the pressure of senior year, you showed up. Some of you had to fight harder than others to get across that stage, and that grit is exactly what defines this community.

To our staff: From the elementary teachers who taught these seniors their first lessons to the high school teams who stayed on top of every credit - this is your win. You’ve proven that when we say we care about every student, we actually mean it. You don’t just teach; you make sure no one gets left behind.

To our families: We know that a 94.6% graduation rate starts at home. This achievement belongs to the parents and guardians who pushed, encouraged, and stayed involved. Thank you for your continued partnership with our schools.

While we are going to take a moment to celebrate being among the top-performing districts in the state, our work isn't done. We won't stop looking for ways to support the students who haven't quite reached the finish line yet. Every single student matters to us.

Thank you, Astoria, for being a community that consistently shows up for its kids.

Sincerely,

Craig Hoppes
